New Testament

Luke 22:28-47 Modern English Version (MEV)

28. You are those who have continued with Me in My trials.

29. And I appoint to you a kingdom as My Father has appointed one to Me,

30. so that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.”

31. Then the Lord said, “Simon, Simon, listen! Satan has demanded to have you to sift you as wheat.

32. But I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have repented, strengthen your brothers.”

33. He said to Him, “Lord, I am ready to go with You to prison and to death.”

34. He said, “I tell you, Peter, before the rooster crows today, you will deny three times that you know Me.”

35. Then He said to them, “When I sent you without purse or bag or sandals, did you lack anything?”They said, “Nothing.”

36. He said to them, “But now, let him who has a purse take it and also a bag. And let him who has no sword sell his garment and buy one.

37. For I tell you, what is written must yet be accomplished in Me, ‘And He was numbered with the transgressors.’ Indeed, what is written concerning Me has a fulfillment.”

38. They said, “Lord, look, here are two swords.”He said to them, “It is enough.”

39. According to His custom, He came out and went to the Mount of Olives. And His disciples followed Him.

40. When He came there, He said to them, “Pray that you may not fall into temptation.”

41. He withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and prayed,

42. “Father, if You are willing, remove this cup from Me. Nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.”

43. An angel from heaven appeared to Him, strengthening Him.

44. And being in anguish, He prayed more earnestly. And His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

45. When He rose from prayer and had come to His disciples, He found them sleeping from sorrow.

46. He said to them, “Why do you sleep? Rise and pray, lest you fall into temptation.”

47. While He was yet speaking, a crowd came. And he who was called Judas, one of the twelve, was leading them. He drew near to Jesus to kiss Him.
