Luke 13:25-34 Modern English Version (MEV)

25. Once the Master of the house has risen up and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock at the door, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open for us,’ He will answer you, ‘I do not know where you come from.’

26. “Then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in your presence, and you taught in our streets.’

27. “But He will say, ‘I tell you, I do not know you, or where you come from. Depart from Me, all you workers of iniquity.’

28. “There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth when you see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out.

29. They will come from the east and from the west and from the north and from the south and will sit down to dine in the kingdom of God.

30. Listen, there are the last who will be first, and the first who will be last.”

31. On the same day certain Pharisees came, saying to Him, “Get out and depart from here, for Herod wants to kill You.”

32. He said to them, “Go and tell that fox, ‘Look, I cast out demons. And I perform healings today and tomorrow, and on the third day I shall be perfected.’

33. Nevertheless I must travel today and tomorrow and the day following. For it cannot be that a prophet should perish outside Jerusalem.

34. “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to you! How often would I have gathered your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing!
