1 Samuel 22:1-6 International Children’s Bible (ICB)

1. David left Gath and escaped to the cave of Adullam. His brothers and other relatives heard that he was there. And they went to see him.

2. Many people joined David. All those who were in trouble, who owed money or who were unsatisfied gathered around him. And he became their leader. He had about 400 men with him.

3. From there David went to Mizpah in Moab. He spoke to the king of Moab. He said, “Please let my father and mother come and stay with you. Let them stay until I learn what God is going to do for me.”

4. So he left them with the king of Moab. And they stayed with the king as long as David was hiding in the protected place.

5. But the prophet Gad said to David, “Don’t stay in the protected place. Go to the land of Judah.” So David left and went to the forest of Hereth.

6. Saul heard that David and his men had been seen. He sat under the tamarisk tree on the hill at Gibeah. All his officers were standing around him. He had a spear in his hand.
